Terms of Service

Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Your True Self (the "Service"), operated by Verata Ventures ("Verata Ventures," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Account Terms

  • Age requirement: you must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. This includes the couples instruments, which ask directly about sexual desire and intimacy and are not appropriate content for minors.
  • Account registration: provide an accurate email address and keep your account information current.
  • Account security: you are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access at team@yourtrueself.app.
  • Couples mode: linking accounts with a partner and sharing instrument results is voluntary and controlled by the privacy settings each partner sets individually.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to harass, threaten, or harm another user.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, another user's account, or another user's assessment or report data.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, collect, or harvest data from the Service.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service through viruses, malware, or excessive automated requests.
  • Misrepresent your identity or another person's identity when using couples mode or invite features.

Violating these terms may result in account suspension or termination.

Intellectual Property

  • The Service: its software, design, and branding are owned by Verata Ventures and protected by applicable intellectual property law.
  • Your responses: you retain ownership of the raw answers you submit.
  • Your report: the personality report generated for you is for your personal use. You may use, save, and share it; we do not claim ownership over it.
  • Instruments: the psychometric instruments used by the Service (Big Five/IPIP-NEO, ECR-RS, PVQ-40, DUTCH, and others) are published research instruments; their original authorship belongs to their respective researchers, and our use of them is described on our Methodology page.

Report Disclaimers

  • Not a clinical tool. Your True Self reports are for self-understanding. They are not psychological evaluations, clinical diagnoses, or medical advice, and are not appropriate for hiring, legal, custody, or clinical decision-making.
  • Generated prose. Report sections are generated automatically from your scores. While every section is validated to anchor its claims to your actual data, the prose may still contain errors or imprecise phrasing. Use judgment when reading it.
  • Sensitive content. The couples instruments ask about sexual desire, intimacy, and relationship conflict. If you find this content distressing, you can stop at any time — nothing about the rest of the Service depends on completing them.
  • Not a substitute for professional help. If you are experiencing mental health difficulties or relationship distress, consult a licensed professional. See our Methodology page for full limitations.

Limitation of Liability

  • The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, Verata Ventures' total liability to you for claims arising out of these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
  • Verata Ventures is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Verata Ventures, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from claims, liabilities, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use or misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of another person's rights, including any misuse of couples mode involving another person's personal or sensitive data without their consent.

Termination

  • Your right to terminate: you may delete your account at any time by requesting deletion at team@yourtrueself.app. Deletion is immediate and permanent, with no grace period or recovery window — see our Privacy Policy for details, including how couples/relationship data is handled.
  • Our right to terminate: we may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these Terms, suspected fraud, or abuse of the Service.
  • Effect on data: upon account deletion (by you or by us), your data is deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Survival: Intellectual Property, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Dispute Resolution survive termination.

Dispute Resolution

  • Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of law principles.
  • Informal resolution: before filing a formal claim, contact team@yourtrueself.app to attempt to resolve the dispute informally.
  • Jurisdiction: any legal action relating to these Terms or the Service will be filed exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after a revised version takes effect constitutes acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and request account deletion.
